Fake News in Fake Outrage Over ICE Arrests — The Beltway Times

The fake news media is expressing outrage over the arrests of more than 640 people in ICE raids conducted across the country. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, removed 240,255 illegals in 2016 under Obama’s watch. The raids recently conducted are standard procedure for the agency, but the fake news media, intent on undermining President Trump, are reporting the raids with sensationalized headlines that make it appear as if they are a result of Trump’s recent executive order.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s website states that “Of those arrested, approximately 75 percent were criminal aliens, convicted of crimes including, but not limited to, homicide, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual assault of a minor, lewd and lascivious acts with a child, indecent liberties with a minor, drug trafficking, battery, assault, DUI and weapons charges. ICE conducts these kind of targeted enforcement operations regularly and has for many years”

The Chicago Tribune clearly admits that the raids are routine in the first sentence of an article with the headline Trump Rhetoric Has Created ‘Atmosphere of Terror’ for Immigrants, Advocate Says. This headline is not only misleading, but an unfair misrepresentation of the men and women who are trying to make our communities safer by targeting those here illegally with criminal records. The fake news media place precedence on the feelings of illegal aliens instead of reporting the fact that these raids are preventing violence and protecting children.

In one case, immigration authorities detained one of Obama’s “dreamers.” These are people who are covered under the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as DACA. The individual in question, Daniel Ramirez Medina, is a “self-admitted gang member,” according to ICE. After retaining a lawyer, Medina now denies being part of a gang. A Reuters article states that it is the first time that someone covered under DACA has been taken into custody under a U.S. president. Obviously, the Obama administration would not have detained a “dreamer,” so of course this is the first time that happened.

The media is playing a dangerous game by continually adding fuel to the fire. The ICE raids were lawful and routine, but the media perpetuates a false narrative with headlines that make it seem as though the innocent are being terrorized.  ICE is doing its job by taking criminals off of the streets.
