A federal jury has sentenced Dylann Roof to death for deliberately killing nine black church members in a racially motivated attack in 2015 in Charleston, South Carolina. The jury was deciding if Roof should receive life in prison or face execution for the killings.
The same jury that convicted Roof with the murders back in December announced its verdict after a deliberation of less than three hours.
Roof chose to represent himself and barely tried to persuade jurors to give him life in prison. Roof was quoted as saying, “From what I’ve been told, I have a right to ask to give me a life sentence. But I’m not sure what good that would do anyway.”
